C.H.O.W. (Cutting Hunger On Weekends/Backpack Program)
Over 10,000 kids in Skagit County are on the free and reduced lunch program. Thanks to the amazing support of our donors, we are able to provide food to over 1,200 kids each week in the Sedro-Woolley and Mount Vernon School Districts. Additional support for this program is through Helping Hands partnership with Skagit Publishing, allowing these bags to be delivered discretely to students along newspaper routes.
Serving Sedro-Woolley, Helping Hands delivers much needed food to participants that are home-bound and cannot leave their homes. We hope to expand on this program in the future, delivering food up the Skagit River to many more identified participants in need of food deliveries.
Community Room/Educational Classes
Helping Hands Solution Center wants to empower its participants with skills and tools to build a better life for themselves. While food is a great start, many who walk through Helping Hands doors need more than nourishment. When the new building was being designed, we wanted to keep it about Community and build our community classroom to host educational and other various classes.
From nutrition seminars and computer skill classes, to boy scout meetings and NA – Helping Hands couldn’t serve the ten of thousands of people it sees each year without the generous support Skagit Valley gives it. The community room is a way of giving back to every person.
Helping Hands Solution Center has a DSHS trained person on staff, who can sit down with any participant in need of additional services and get them started as quickly as possible on the process. Our staff member is also trained to set up individuals out in the field as well, helping those we encounter via Mobile Food.Languages:
