How to Offer Help

We believe it should be easy and free for qualified mental health providers to connect to the right clients. That's why we've built a crowd-sourced directory of mental health resources. Our Resource Directory connects therapists to paying clients at no cost to the provider. Also, we're using it for amazing things like the Crisis Therapy Project.

THE OVERVIEW
1) Sign Up for the Project

Therapists can signup at thero.org/signup to offer free individual sessions. We verify your license and review your experience in trauma, crisis, or grief and loss.

2) Add your listing to the Thero Directory

Once your license and experience is verified you can add your listing to the Thero Directory.

3) Mark your listing as free for Crisis Therapy

When filling out the details on your listing there is a "Crisis Therapy Project" section where you can list yourself as offering free therapy for the crisis in your area. This will make your listing visible to people searching for free crisis therapy in your area.

4) Remove the free option when the spot is filled.

Once the free spot in your schedule is filled by a client you can remove the Crisis Therapy option on your listing to stop being shown on the Crisis Therapy search results.

Crisis Therapy Project

The Crisis Therapy Project uses the power of our resource directory to connect people affected by crises (like school shootings, natural disasters, and disease outbreaks) to therapists who are offering free therapy.

When a therapist adds their practice to the Thero Resource Directory they can choose to participate in the Crisis Therapy Project as well. They don't have to participate, but if they do, their private practice will display in search results for free therapy for people affected by crises. The steps to participate are outlined below.

When you are logged in as a Provider you will see an "Add Resource" button on the top menu. Hover over it and click "My Private Practice." Fill in all required fields, providing as much accurate information as possible about your practice.

3 ) Select the option to participate in the Crisis Therapy Project

When filling out the information for your Directory listings you'll see a section called "CRISIS THERAPY PROJECT." This section is optional. Select this if you want to offer free therapy to someone affected by a crisis AND you are qualified to offer therapy for crisis, trauma, grief, or first responders. 1 ) Read the Fine Print
  • The Thero Resource Directory and the Crisis Therapy Project are separate initiatives. Any licensed provider can be listed in the Thero Directory for free, regardless of whether they want to participate in the Crisis Therapy Project.
  • The Crisis Therapy Project is an initiative to remove barriers between qualified therapists who want to offer free therapy and people who are looking for free therapy.
  • Therapist will display to people searching for free crisis therapy (thero.org/crisis) if they 1) Add their listing in the Thero Resource Directory AND 2) Have selected a Crisis Therapy Project option on their listing.
  • Clients searching for free therapy related to a crises will see the therapist’s listing and contact them directly.
  • Offering free therapy means the client is never asked to pay any money and the therapist does not bill the client’s insurance.
  • Participation in the Crisis Therapy Project means the therapist agrees to offer a minimum treatment of of one hour per week for at least 6 weeks.
  • Each therapist uses their best clinical judgement to decide what length of time past 6 sessions is appropriate for each client. Consider the type of therapy you offer and the client’s treatment goals. For instance, using EMDR for symptom reduction often requires less time than talk therapy for identity development.
  • The primary job of Thero is to make it easy to find and verify information about providers. We do not endorse the therapists in the Crisis Therapy Project or Thero Resource Directory. We also do not recommend specific therapies. We do annual license checks on providers in our directory. We recommend that people verify information about their provider with the state licensing boards and certifying agencies before attending therapy. We have tools that make it easy to do so.
  • Thero does not hold any liabilities regarding the therapy or treatments offered by providers found on Thero.org. The treatment Providers and people receiving therapy take all liability for any therapy provided.
